Purpose
Florida Campus Compact STEM is a new initiative that will implement a series of Institutes and subsequent program grants to integrate
service-learning into the teaching of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) at colleges and universities in Florida. While
service-learning tends to be relatively well established in the humanities, there is a need for service-learning in the STEM disciplines.
Goals
- To contribute to the development of a knowledge economy in Florida that is comprised of active, knowledgeable and engaged citizens/STEM
professionals.
- To encourage changes in behavior that will create a more sustainable future in terms of environmental integrity, economic viability, healthy
communities, and a just society for present and future generations. (UNESCO Decade of Education for Sustainable Development)
- To contribute to the institutionalization of service-learning in STEM.
